About Us
About our founder, Abdul G. Tapa:
I was born in the Himalayas, in
Kashmir, now part of India. In my many trips to visit my family back home, I
met many skilled artists who produce exquisite goods. Yet, I had never seen
these items in the U.S.A. Artisans in India have trouble reaching our markets
due to poverty, poor information, and the disadvantage of being smaller
workshops in a world of mass distribution. Yet they are capable of making
beautiful high-quality goods.
I have traveled through the back alleys and through the smaller villages of
India, meeting with artists and their families, producing high quality goods in
cottage industry settings. Himalayan International Trading is devoted solely to
carrying the works of Indian artisans, especially disadvantaged artisans, and
selling them as inexpensively as possible. No child labor is used in the
production of our products. Our products are produced using ancient methods and
techniques, passed down through the generations. Timeless designs made from
high quality wools and silks.
